Supporting Households. Tackling Fuel Poverty. Strengthening Communities.
The Energy Advice Portal is an established energy advice and support service delivered by Fairway Energy Limited, providing free, impartial and expert guidance to help UK households manage their energy costs, improve home energy efficiency and access available financial assistance.
Our service goes beyond helping residents identify suitable energy grants. Through our dedicated helpline, experienced energy advisors, home-visiting arrangements and regional support infrastructure, we provide accessible, personalised assistance to households and communities, particularly those experiencing fuel poverty, financial hardship or additional vulnerabilities.
Making Energy Advice Accessible to Everyone
We believe everyone should have access to the information, guidance and support they need to live in a warm, healthy and energy-efficient home.
Our experienced advisors provide practical advice through telephone consultations and face-to-face support, helping residents understand their energy bills, manage heating costs, identify energy-saving opportunities and explore available government-funded and government-backed energy efficiency schemes.
We recognise that accessing support isn’t always straightforward. Some residents face financial, physical or digital barriers, while others may be socially isolated or require additional assistance. Our people-first approach ensures advice is delivered with compassion, understanding and consideration for individual circumstances.
Through accessible communication, personalised guidance and appropriate signposting, we aim to ensure that vulnerable and underserved households are not left behind.

How It All Started
There have been several global events in recent years which have contributed to a rise in energy prices for UK residents. To help support residents in these challenging times, Fairway Energy set up the Energy Advice Portal to provide free home energy grant advice and signposting for residents who can benefit from these grants, with the goal of helping lower energy bills and fighting fuel poverty.
COVID-19 Pandemic
The pandemic led to a significant reduction in global energy demand initially. However, as economies began to recover, there was a surge in demand which outpaced supply, causing prices to rise sharply. Disruptions in global supply chains also contributed to the increase in energy prices.
Global Supply Chain Disruptions
Various disruptions in the global supply chain, including those caused by extreme weather events and geopolitical tensions, affected the supply of natural gas and other energy sources. The Suez Canal blockage in March 2021 is an example of such an event that had a ripple effect on energy supply and prices.
Natural Gas Shortage
Europe experienced a significant shortage of natural gas due to a combination of factors, including reduced supplies from Russia, low storage levels, and increased demand as economies recovered from the pandemic. This shortage drove up natural gas prices, impacting electricity prices as well since natural gas is a key energy source for electricity generation in the UK.
Russia-Ukraine Conflict
The invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022 led to severe disruptions in the supply of natural gas and oil from Russia, one of the world’s largest energy exporters. Sanctions and countersanctions further strained the energy market, causing dramatic increases in energy prices across Europe, including the UK. The conflict highlighted Europe’s dependence on Russian energy and led to a scramble for alternative sources, further pushing up prices.
Impact of Global Energy Market Volatility
In 2023, continued volatility in global energy markets, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions, extreme weather events, and fluctuating supply and demand dynamics, further exacerbated energy prices in the UK. For example, unexpected heatwaves increased demand for cooling, while severe winters heightened heating needs. Additionally, geopolitical instability in key energy-producing regions led to unpredictable supply disruptions. This volatility affected the cost of importing energy, which in turn led to higher prices for consumers and businesses in the UK.
Energy Advice Portal Launched
To help support UK residents in these challenging times, Fairway Energy set up the Energy Advice Portal (formerly Grant Advice Helpline) to provide free home energy grant advice and signposting for residents who can benefit from energy and grant advice, with the goal of helping lower energy bills and fight fuel poverty.
